â€Å"The Allegory of the Cave† by Plato illustrates metaphors that is to contrast what the readers believe to be the truth and reality. In the story told by Plato, he presents the reader with an allegorical tale in which an individual finds it difficult to discern between appearance and reality, as often times what is presented to individuals may be just an illusion. Although â€Å"The Allegory of the Cave† was written in the ancient days, it can still be used in today’s world due to all the censorship the audience receives. We are so chained up and only seeing the pictures that are depicted on televisions and the internet, just like the prisoners viewing whatever is being shown on the wall as reality. For example, when we think about Israel now, all we think of is war and destruction. Even when we do a search of Israel, pictures of destruction comes up. What happened to the past when we see Israel for the good it offers and not just the bad? As we start to get more interested into one topic of the world news, we start to dig deeper and deeper. Technology in the 21st century is so great that we can experience both virtual reality and live video feeds. Live video feeds is what allows to experience the news as if we were actually there in person. We have been so reliant on virtual reality, that when we see the live video feeds of a place, we start to question what is actually reality and what is illusion. Doesn’t this make us the prisoner that escaped to experience the real world but didnt know what to believe? In the 21st century, media is similar to the cave. The images that were shown to us through media are similar to those shadows on the wall shown to the prisoners. Once we reach the outside, we will truly know what the truth is because that is reality.
